Aug 19, 2025: India's 15-member T20 squad for the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in the UAE, includes Jasprit Bumrah and Test captain Shubman Gill, who was also named vice captain on Tuesday. Gill's last T20 match was against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2024 and he has now replaced Axar Patel as the deputy of skipper Suryakumar Yadav.
During the press conference where the squad was announced, chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated, "Gill's form in England was something we expected, but he exceeded everything." Due primarily to the close proximity of the October home Test series against the West Indies, there were some lingering doubts regarding Bumrah's availability. However, the selectors chose to pick, and Bumrah will play in his first Twenty20 tournament since the World Cup last year. Kuldeep Yadav, a wrist spinner with the left arm, has also been brought in, and Jitesh Sharma will bat as a back-up wicketkeeper. The selectors selected Yashasvi Jaiswal as one of the five standby players. Agarkar stated, "It's unfortunate Jaiswal has had to miss out, but he will have to wait." India joins Pakistan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates in Asia Cup Group A.
India's Asia Cup squad: Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Jitesh Sharma, Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Varun Chakravarthy are the captain and vice captain, respectively.
