Hit by pandemic, local performing artists seek financial aid, release of pending payments

Rendered without work owing to the spread of the pandemic and the lockdown & restrictions due to it, the local performing artists belonging to Jammu division, who used to earn their livelihood through various programmes in Doordarshan (DD) and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), have sought a financial aid from the government to sustain their and their family members’ living.
The artists, under the banner of All Artists Association Jammu, today while addressing media persons, here, said that following the lockdown for over two months, the cultural activities have come to a complete stand still. This has hit the artists and others connected with the activities and events in the field of art and culture, many of them coming from economical weaker sections.
The artists rued that many of them have even reached the starvation stage and hence it was required that the government should come forward and announce some financial aid for them.
They also said that Doordarshan and JKAACL should immediately release the payments due to them lying pending for years as it was the time when they require their money the most.
