Heavy Snowfall in J&K from Vaishno Devi to Gulmarg, NH closed

Fresh weather and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir from Duggar block of Kathua block to Gulmarg on Tuesday changed the weather pattern. An increase in the minimum temperature has been recorded.

Bhavan of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Trikuta hills including Bhairo valley continued to rain with light snowfall since Monday night. The chopper-friendly chopper service came to a standstill due to bad weather.

Meanwhile, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for six hours due to snowfall outside Jawahar Tunnel. Snowfall at Jojila Pass has not restored traffic on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. The Mughal road connecting Rajouri and Poonch with Shopian is also closed.

Tuesday began in Jammu and Kashmir with rain and snowfall. All plains including Jammu city received rains throughout the day. Snowfall has increased in the mountainous regions of Kashmir. Summer capital Srinagar also received rains throughout the day after a light snowfall in the morning. The day temperature here was 3.9 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees Celsius below normal.

Day temperatures in all districts of Kashmir have dropped by 3-5 degrees above normal. Doda, Bhadarwah, Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch districts also received snowfall in the mountainous areas with rain in the plains.

Meteorological director Sonam Lotus said light rain and snowfall is expected to continue till Wednesday in most areas of Jammu and Kashmir and some places in Kargil district of Ladakh. Said that more rain and snowfall is expected in South Kashmir, Pir Panjal region Jammu Srinagar National Highway Poonch and Rajouri.
