American poet Louise Gl�ck gets Nobel Prize in Literature

American poet "Louise Gl�ck" has won the Nobel Prize in Literature �for her unmistakable poetic voice."

The prize was announced Thursday in Stockholm by Mats Malm, the Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy.

The Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded this time after several years of controversy and scandal for this literary honor. It was postponed in 2018 after sex abuse allegations that rocked the Swedish Academy.

Announcing the Nobel Prize to Louise Gl�ck, the official Twitter handle of the Nobel Prize wrote, �The 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to the American poet Louise Gl�ck �for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal.�

Louise Gluck debuted as an author in 1968 with �Firstborn� that won her acclaimed and she soon established herself as one of the most prominent poets in American contemporary literature. She has a dozen collections of poetry published besides volumes of essays on poetry.

The Nobel Committee has announced the Nobel Prizes for medicine, physics and chemistry this week. The Nobel Prize for physiology and medicine was given to Harvey Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles Rice for discovering the liver ravaging hepatitis C virus.

The Nobel Prize for physics went to Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for breakthroughs in understanding the mysteries of cosmic black holes. The Nobel Prize for chemistry was shared by Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A Doudna for a powerful gene-editing tool called Crispr-Cas9.

The Nobel Committee is yet to announce prizes for peace and economics.
