J&K sees big hike with 52 cases

In another major spike in Covid cases, at least 52 persons, including a policeman, tested positive in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases included 22 positive patients from the Jammu division and 30 from Kashmir Valley, taking the tally of the total cases in the UT to 1,621, including 809 recovered cases (50.56 per cent) and 791 active positive cases. Twenty one patients have died from coronavirus in J&K so far. Meanwhile, 35 more patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals, three from the Jammu division and 32 from the Kashmir division. In Kashmir Valley, all samples tested positive at Srinagar's Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Kashmir. At SKIMS, 47 persons tested positive for coronavirus today, said a spokesperson of the institute Dr Ghulam Hassan Yatoo. He said 25 positive cases were reported from Kulgam, 20 from Jammu and one each from Shopian and Baramulla. SKIMS tested 5,500 samples, including over 350 from the Jammu division. In Jammu district, six fresh cases, all of them in the administrative quarantine, were reported, while four new cases, including that of a policeman, were reported from Kathua district. Four cases positive today. One from Kathua town and three from Basholi. Three in quarantine centre and one of them happens to be a policeman on duty at Lakhanpur. Total cases 45. Active 39, Shailendra Mishra, SSP, Kathua, tweeted. Similarly, seven fresh cases, all from quarantine facility, were reported from Samba district. According to the government’s media bulletin, out of 1,30,433 test results available, 1,28,812 samples have tested negative till May 24. Additionally, till date 1,32,594 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance, which included 31,816 persons in home quarantine, including facilities operated by the government, 71 in hospital quarantine, 791 in hospital isolation and 28,600 under home surveillance. Besides, 71,295 persons have completed their surveillance period.
