According to lawyers, a special PMLA court extended Hemant Soren's Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand by five days on Wednesday in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.
Soren, JMM chief president, on February 2 was remanded to five days' ED guardianship by the unique PMLA (The Anticipation of Illegal tax avoidance Act) court which finished on Wednesday.
"The ED had appealed to God for seven days of remand which we protested saying no further remand is required in light of the fact that he has proactively been grilled for eight hours on January 20 and an additional eight hours on January 31," Backer General Rajeev Ranjan, who showed up for Soren, told correspondents.
Aside from that, he has proactively been examined for 120 hours in five days.
Therefore, there is no need for additional remand. However, they have attempted to go beyond the predicate offense matter in their investigation. We have been saying that they (ED) have no power and ward to explore anything past the predicate offense," the AG said.
He added that the scheduled offense includes 8.5 acres of land, which is the subject of the FIR.
He stated, "In today's petition, they (ED) have used certain other chats that have nothing to do with the present land deal in which he has been arrested... They want to keep him in custody in view of the upcoming (Lok Sabha) elections." These other chats had nothing to do with the current land deal.
The AG guaranteed that the previous boss clergyman has been kept in a storm cellar room where even daylight doesn't reach as there are no windows.
He said he has brought to the information on the court that even air gets through a line in that cellar room and Soren is continually being observed by the equipped gatekeepers, even while dozing.
Prior during the day, the ED took the previous CM to the common court in Ranchi in the midst of tight security.
Soren waved at his allies, who raised trademarks, for example, 'Hemant Soren Zindabad' and 'Prison Ka Darwaja Tootega, Hemant Bhaiya Chootega' (Prison entryways will be broken, sibling Hemant will be delivered).
Kalpana Soren, Hemant Soren's wife, first met him at the ED office. On their 18th wedding anniversary, she wrote on X that she is a warrior's life partner and will always be his strength.
She said her significant other isn't with the family on their wedding commemoration however she won't be close to home as he will "rout scheme and arise as a champ".
Hemant Soren was captured the evening of January 31 following a seven-hour barbecuing by the ED in the tax evasion case. He surrendered as the central pastor before that.
