India had a major injury scare when Hardik Pandya limped off the field with an injured left ankle in the fourth league match against Bangladesh at the FIFA World Cup in Pune. Pandya appeared to twist his ankle while bowling in the first innings - the ninth innings - and it was later announced on the show that he would not return to the field for the rest of the innings.

A physio immediately rushed out to treat Pandya and worked on his ankle for a few minutes. He then tried to continue his journey but was in too much pain. At 2.59 pm, an hour into play, Pandya went for further treatment and Virat Kohli bowled the remaining three deliveries. The BCCI later said that Pandya would be taken for a scan.

Along with Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, Pandya is probably the most indispensable player in the Indian team due to his versatile role. He is good enough to play as a specialist but his bowling gives India the sixth bowler they badly need. Pandya took 16 wickets in India's first three World Cup matches, taking five wickets.

More specialist fast bowler Shardul Thakur, who can bat, has bowled just eight overs in two matches and Rohit Sharma has so far preferred to go to Pandya ahead of Thakur in this World Cup. India were wary of Pandya going into the World Cup precisely because of the balance he brings to the team. If he misses the match, India will not have a similar replacement. Shardul Thakur bats at number 7 and replaces Pandya's bowling or brings in an extra batsman and trusts 10 overs with five bowlers.

Three wins from three games India are one of the two teams still unbeaten in this World Cup. After Bangladesh, their next match is in Dharamsala on Sunday against New Zealand, who are the only unbeaten team in the tournament with four wins from four games.
