A deputy police chief was arrested in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on the orders of a local court, officials said on Thursday.
Officers from the Nowgam Police Station arrested Sheikh Adil on Wednesday, they said.
The official was convicted under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code, including sections 193 (giving false evidence) and 201 (destruction of evidence).
The officer was recently disqualified from driving.
Crimes against Adil are taken seriously and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the Superintendent of Police (SP). "Due to the wider implications of this case, a special investigation team led by SP South City has been constituted to investigate the case," the police said.
