Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally launch the Centre's newly announced artisan scheme, PM Vishwakarma, on September 17 to mark Vishwakarma Jayanti. Modi mentioned the scheme in his Independence Day speech and the Committee of Economic Ministers recently allocated ₹13,000 crore for the scheme. The system is available for traditional artisans and craftsmen during five financial periods 2023-24-2027-28.

Under the scheme, artisans can register themselves biometrically on the PM Vishwakarma portal. "They will be recognized with a PM Vishwakarma certificate and identity card, upskilling which includes basic and advanced training, ₹ 15,000 kit, unsecured credit facility of ₹ 1,000 (first tranche) and ₹ 2,000 (second tranche) at 5.% interest rate payable. on digital business motivation and marketing support", the Riigivolikoku office added.
