The Indian men's ice hockey team rose to the third position in the latest world rankings by the International Ice Hockey Federation (FIH) on Monday.
India (2,771) returned to the top three in May 2022 after more than a year of relegation. The reason for the increase was their unbeaten run at the 2023 Asian Championships in Chennai last month.
The Indians won six and drew one of their seven matches. In the top three is England (2,745), which just failed to win the Eurohockey championship with a 1:2 loss in the final in the Netherlands. Despite a strong final, England's earlier defeat against Belgium in the tournament and the final loss, combined with India's victories, dropped England to fourth.

The Netherlands (3,113) continue to lead the way, defending their title at the EuroHockey Championship, adding to their FIH Hockey Pro League title and a bronze medal at the FIH Hockey World Championship in 2023.
Due to the dominance of the Netherlands, they are comfortably ahead of Belgium (2,989) in second place.
The fifth and sixth places are held by Germany (2689) and Australia (2544), and Argentina (2350) rose one place ahead of Spain (2347) to seventh.

At the top of the women's ranking are the Netherlands (3,422), who stay away from the chasers and continue their dominance with a record 12th Eurohockey championship. Australia (2818) and Argentina (2767) are in second and third place.
However, Belgium (2,609) had an excellent campaign at the EC and won the silver medal ahead of Germany (2,574) as the two teams are ranked fourth and fifth in the world.

Indian Women (2,325) moved up one place to seventh at the expense of Spain (2,173), who finished sixth at the EC after dropping more than 150 world ranking points against Belgium and Scotland.
New Zealand (2001) and Japan (1900) continue to maintain their ninth and tenth places, with China (1894) just behind Japan in 11th place.
