Argentine actress and former model Silvina Luna died at the age of 43 after spending 79 days in hospital with kidney complications following a 2011 buttock procedure in Brazil.
43-year-old Argentinian actress Silvina Luna died on Thursday, August 31. He was in hospital for 79 days at the Italiano Hospital, where he was treated for complications from surgery in 2011, reports mirror.co.uk.
His brother, Ezequiel Luna, gave the go-ahead for doctors to remove him from the ventilator at noon Thursday, according to local news reports. Silvina's lawyer, Fernando Burlando, said the tragic loss was "an ending that hurts, that hurts." He hopes that his fight will make the authorities "wake up, so that society pays attention and there will be no more deaths". The procedure was performed on the actress in June-July 2011 and was performed by cosmetic surgeon Anibal Lotocki.

Dr. Lotock is accused of causing the death of a patient operated on in 2010 in 2021. He injected Silvina with a liquid containing polymethyl methacrylate, which is prohibited by the National Agency of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology of Argentina.
Silvina first needed medical attention in 2015 when she was treated for kidney stones. Doctors diagnosed him with kidney failure and hypercalcemia, and he was put on weekly dialysis until he received a kidney transplant.
In 2016, she traveled to Miami, where she met Argentinian doctor Critsitan Perez, who removed the dangerous substance from her buttocks. Speaking to C5N television, he explained: "Silvina developed a drug-induced autoimmune disease as a result of the operations. All patients develop severe kidney failure and die."

While waiting for a new kidney, Silvina's condition worsened and she was hospitalized on June 13. He was kept sedated for nearly two weeks, until June 29, when he was taken off the ventilator. On August 19, the hospital released a statement that Silvina "is breathing on her own with the help of kinesiological, nutritional and psychological rehabilitation." But in recent days he developed a bacterial infection and was intubated again on Wednesday, August 30, before being taken off life support the following day.
The Buenos Aires Chancellor of Justice opened an investigation into Silvina's death and ordered her body sent to the city morgue for an autopsy. Her death comes just two weeks after TV host and fashion expert Mariano Caprarola died of complications from a butt lift operation in 2010, also performed by Dr. Lotocki.

In February 2022, Dr. Lotock was sentenced to four years in prison on medical malpractice charges brought by Silvina and three other women. In July, the court ordered him to practice medicine for five years.
However, the surgeon is not behind bars. He remains free while the National Court of Criminal Appeals assesses his sentence.
