Early on Friday morning in an eastern district of Thailand, a freight train collided with a pickup truck that was crossing the rails, killing eight people, according to authorities.
According to the State Railway of Thailand, the accident around 2:20 am also left four persons injured in the Chachoengsao province's Muang district.
Wichai Yulek, the 54-year-old driver, said officials that he heard the warning siren and observed the incoming train. Although he slowed down, the other drivers in the car urged him to keep going. The railway agency claimed that despite realizing the truck was headed toward a collision, the driver was unable to halt in time.
An 18-year-old, two persons in their 20s and five people over the age of 55 are among the deceased, while four guys in their 20s made up the injured victims.
