A day before the Supreme Court is set to begin hearing appeals challenging the invalidation of Composition 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre said its decision has brought" unknown stability and progress" to the region.

In a fresh affidavit filed on Monday, the Centre defended its decision to vacate Composition 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. Opposing the pleas challenging the invalidation of Composition 370, the Centre argued that gravestone-pelting incidents, which reached as high as 1,767 in 2018, have now desisted fully in 2023.
In the 20-runner affidavit, the Centre enumerated colorful ways taken to promote peace and development in the region, stating that this" major step has brought stability, peace, development, and security in the region".

The affidavit further stressed that bent anti-terror conduct has led to the dismantling of the terrorist ecosystem, performing in a significant drop in terrorist reclamation from 199 in 2018 to 12 in 2023. The Centre further stated," Life has returned to normality in the region after three decades of fermentation. People have acclimated to the changes, enjoying peace, substance, and stability."

A five-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, is listed to hear the case and fix a hail schedule on Tuesday. The batch of desires, filed in 2019, pertained to a five-judge constitution bench, headed by the Chief Justice of India N V Ramana, in December 2019.

The desires challenge a Presidential Order from August 5, 2019, which disannulled Composition 370. Under Composition 370, special rights and boons have been granted to the people of Jammu and Kashmir since 1954 in agreement with the Instrument of Accession. later, the Jammu and Kashmir( Reorganisation) Act of 2019 came into effect, bifurcating the state into the Union homes of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The top court has entered multiple desires on the matter, with a range of attorneys, activists, politicians, and retired civil retainers among the pleaders.

The petitioners include advocate ML Sharma, Jammu, and Kashmir- grounded counsel Shakir Shabir, National Conference Lok Sabha MPs Mohammad Akbar Lone and Justice( Retd) Hasnain Masoodi, and Shehla Rashid. Other petitioners include Radha Kumar, a former member of the Home Ministry's Group of Interlocutors for J&K, Hindal Haidar Tyabji, a former Chief Secretary of J&K, retired Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak, sheltered Major General Ashok Kumar Mehta, Amitabha Pande, a former Secretary to the Inter-State Council of the Government of India, and Gopal Pillai, a former Union Home Secretary.
