Meat shops in Gurgaon (Gurugram) will now remain closed every Tuesday. The decision was passed at the general meeting of Gurgaon Municipal Corporation that was deliberating on hiking license fee for meat shops. Gurgaon Councillor Ashwani Sharma of ward number 23 suggested shutting of meat and chicken shops in Gurgaon on Tuesday. Under the Municipal Corporation Act, Gurgaon meat shops will now remain closed once a week. In the meeting, it was decided that the meat license fee should be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 and the amount of challan levied on unauthorized meat vendors should also be increased from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. In case of street vendors, the civic body has decided to collect fines from the agencies and if the agencies do not deposit the money in the Municipal Corporation, an FIR would be lodged against them. Vinay Pratap Singh, Commissioner Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, said, “If an officer is found guilty by hurriedly completing an ongoing investigation in these cases, the case will be sent to the government to take action against him.”
