Maninder Singh alias Moni, one of the most wanted accused in the Red Fort violence that took place during farmers' tractor parade on Republic Day, has been arrested by Delhi Police. A special cell of the Delhi Police arrested Singh from a bust stop near Pitam Pura on Tuesday evening. The 30-year-old, who works as a car AC mechanic, has been arrested under 41.1 Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The police recovered two 4.3 feet swords from his house in Swaroop Nagar. A video of him showing him swinging swords at Red Fort on January 26 has been found on his mobile phone. Further interrogation of the accused is underway. Chaotic scenes were witnessed in several parts of the national capital during farmers' tractor parade on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day as a section of farmers protesting against the farm laws stormed into the city way before the pre-decided time, prompting security personnel to resort to lathicharge and tear gas. The protesters also entered ITO in the heart of the national capital and the iconic Red Fort and hoisted flags on its domes and the flagstaff at the ramparts. "The arrested person was seen in a video swinging two swords at Red Fort with intent to motivate/radicalise and energise the violent anti-national elements indulging in brutal assault/attack on police persons on duty with swords, khandas, iron rods, axes, barsaas, dandas etc and damaging historical monument Red Fort on Republic Day 2021," the police said in a statement.
