No new Covid-19 deaths in 19 states, UTs in past 24 hours: Health Ministry

Nineteen states and Union Territories have reported no new Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours even as fresh cases witnessed a marginal rise, according to Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday. India reported 11,067 new Covid-19 cases and 13,087 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing down the active caseload to 1.41 lakh. On Tuesday, India reported 9,110 new cases. The new cases take the cumulative count of people infected with the virus in the country to 1,08,58,371 and and 1,05,61,608 recoveries. This has taken the recovery rate to 97.27 per cent. Less than 5,000 active cases have been recorded in 33 states/UTs. With 94 deaths registered in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths toll now stands at 1,55,252. On Tuesday, the ministry said seven states and Union Territories had reported no new Covid-19 deaths in the last three weeks. "Consistent gains are being made in terms of declining new Covid-19 cases and new deaths. The current situation of the pandemic is satisfactory. We are very happy to note that COVID-19 deaths reported are below 100 consistently. Also, no death has been reported in Delhi for the last 24 hours. This is a remarkable feat," NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr VK Paul said at a press conference. As many as 66,11,561 Covid-19 vaccinations have been administered to heathcare and frontline workers in the country so far, the Ministry said. Union Health Secretary Bhushan said India was the fastest country to reach administration of 60 lakh doses of vaccine, doing so in 24 days.
