Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, who had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, has developed a chest infection and is being shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Treatment here for further treatment. The Uttarakhand Chief Ministers Office said Rawat is being shifted to AIIMS from the Doon Hospital in state capital Dehradun, where was admitted yesterday after testing positive for COVID-19 on December 18. As per the CMs physician Dr NS Bisht, infection has been detected in the BJP leaders chest. Concern over UK strain in Uttarakhand, the news came as five people, who returned from the United Kingdom on December 15, tested positive for COVID-19 in the state. One of their contacts has also been found positive. They have been placed under isolation, JC Pandey, the nodal officer at State Covid-19 Control Room, Uttarakhand, said. The state health department has already written to all 13 Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) in connection with the containment of the new UK variant of COVID-19, which is believed to be more infectious and transmissible. The CMOs have been instructed to trace the foreign returnees and that their health be monitored for 28 days. Pandey had earlier stated that 227 people were identified as having returned to the state from the UK since November 25. These persons are being kept in isolation. "Of the 227 people who have come to the state from the UK since November 25, 138 are from Dehradun, 32 from Nainital, 25 from Udham Singh Nagar and 18 from Haridwar and rest are from other districts of the states. All the CMOs have been asked to isolate these people," Pandey told news agency. "One woman who returned from the UK to Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district has tested positive for COVID-19. It is yet to be confirmed whether it is a UK variant of the coronavirus," he added.
