Pune district records 600 fresh Covid cases, 4,875 active cases in the city

783 people recovered from Covid yesterday in the district. Since the pandemic started, 3,41,298 have battled Covid and 3.68 lakh have contracted it. The death toll is at 7,743 in Pune district with 13,267 active cases under treatment in hospitals or in-home isolation. Dr Bhagwan Pawar, Pune district health officer said that among the 600 fresh cases, 307 are in PMC limits, 139 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 115 in rural areas and 39 in cantonment areas. There are 4,875 active cases in Pune of which 385 are serious with 225 on ventilators and 160 without. 860 patients are under oxygen therapy. Dr Ashish Bharti, civic body health chief said that yesterday, 3,447 tests were held by the civic body, taking the total to around 9lakh. A 68-year-old man from Pimple Gurav was the oldest one to die. The patient was being treated since December 17. Covid proved fatal to him due to multiple organ failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome and pneumonitis. The patient was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. A 66-year-old man from Daund was among the fatalities. He was being treated since December 22. The cause of death is said to be acute respiratory failure and pneumonitis. The patient was suffering from hypertension. In the state, almost 4,000 new Covid cases were discovered yesterday. Till now, 19, 06,371 people have tested positive. The death toll is around 49,000. 7,620 patients recovered, taking the total to 18, 01,700. There are 54,573 active cases. The recovery rate is at 94.51% and case fatality rate at 2.57%.
