Green travels: This South Korean girl and her group is converting trash into art
27-November-2020

Hiker Kim Kang-eun from South Korea is the latest newsmaker in the realm of nature conservationists on the planet.
It all started when Kim saw rubbish lying around in Mount Jiri, South Koreas largest national park, on a short trip in the year 2018. It was a wakeup call for her to do something to save the environment, and thus was formed Clean Hikers, a group devoted to collecting trash from Mount Jiri and other mountain parks in the country to convert it into art works.

Reportedly, Kim was convinced that junk art would be more impressive and well-received by people, when compared to directly asking them to not litter. The group works by making eye-catching images that draw attention of people.
For example, the group created a collage of a crying cat with the slogan, Save the World, at the peak of Mount Mani on Ganghwa Island. In addition, they have also worked with bits of cloth, plastic ware and even hiking poles and paper to transform them into figures looking like cats, fish, turtles and human faces.

Given the ongoing pandemic, the timing to give out the message by Kim and her team could not be better, as the world is already learning to take care of nature.
