When Shah Rukh Khan thought wife Gauri Khan was about to die

29-Oct-2020

Shah Rukh Khan lost both his parents at a very young age and that has left a huge impact on his life. Not many know but SRK dreads going to hospitals or seeing any of his loved ones hospitalised because his parents had breathed their last in the hospital. So when wife Gauri Khan went into labour while she was pregnant with their first son Aryan Khan in 1997, SRK couldn't see her struggling in pain. He almost thought that she would die. In an interview from the year 1998, SRK had shared how petrified he was to see Gauri "shivering" while giving birth to their son. He mentioned how at that moment, he didn't even think about the kid but just wanted Gauri to be fine. "I've lost my parents in hospitals -- so I don't like being in hospitals. And Gauri is quite fragile -- and I've never seen her fall really sick, or seen her unwell. When I saw her in the hospital, they had put in tubes and stuff. And she was becoming delirious and she was really cold", he said in interaction with Rediff. Further talking about the moment he thought Gauri would die, SRK added, "I went with her to the operation theatre for her Caesarean... And (takes a deep breath) I thought she'd die. Didn't even think about the kid at that point in time. It wasn't important to me. She was shivering so much and I know logically that you don't die while giving birth to babies... But still... (Lost in thought)... I just got a little scared." Fortunately, all was brought under control by the doctors and Gauri delivered a healthy baby boy Aryan on November 13, 1997. It's been 29 years since SRK and Gauri have been happily married. They are blessed with not one but three children - Aryan, Suhana and AbRam Khan. SRK has proved to be a loving husband to Gauri and a doting, protective and highly affectionate father to their kids. In fact, over the years, Shah Rukh's relationship with Gauri has been entirely centered around raising their children. "Thats what eventually happens. Parents become parents at one point and that changes it all", he had said in a 2017 interview adding, "Our conversations, our life together is through the prism of our children. Theyve been our focal point and have literally kept our world intact."
