Ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is now making uniforms for girls in Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls School, Jaisalmer, in Rajasthan. Yes, that is correct. The designer, who is known for his gorgeous bridal collections and has custom-made wedding outfits for a lot of celebrities on their Big days, has now partnered with a non-profit organization and is making gorgeous school uniforms for girls.
Bollywoods favourite designer took to Instagram and announced the news along with a few pictures of the girls in the uniform. While giving the details about the uniform in the images, he wrote, Ajrakh uniforms by Sabyasachi for the Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls School, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. @dianakelloggarchitects Initiated by Citta @cittaorg @mdaube, a non-profit organisation based in the USA.
The blue and maroon dress has a centre-front hook button detail and two patch pockets in the front. The thing that stands out in the uniform and makes it traditional is the Ajrakh print.

WHAT DOES SABYASACHI FEEL ABOUT THE PROJECT?

Talking about the project, Sabyasachi said, I have always believed in the transformative power of education. Its impact ripples outwards and upwards, from an individual level to society-at-large. Especially dear to me are initiatives that focus their resources on educating girls - the demographic most limited in access to opportunity and most stifled by archaic social expectations (sic). Talking more about the project, Sabyasachi wrote, I was thrilled about the project. It would provide young girls in Jaisalmer with an education, and give women in the region vocational skills and the opportunity for economic independence. He also made sure that the design of the uniform was traditional and native to Rajasthan. That is the reason he chose the Ajrakh, which is a traditional textile from the region.
