Even Pakistan, Afghanistan handled coronavirus better than India, says Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, 16-Oct-2020

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at the Central government over International Monetary Fund's (IMF) projection that said the Indian economy, hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, is expected to contract by a massive 10.3 per cent this year. The Congress leader slammed the Centre on Twitter by tagging a chart that depicted IMF growth projections and said "even Pakistan and Afghanistan handled Covid better than India". According to the chart, added in Rahul Gandhi's tweet, the Indian economy is expected to contract by 10.3 per cent this year, the highest contraction among the other countries - China, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Afghanistan. In the tweet, Rahul Gandhi said: "Another solid achievement by the BJP government. Even Pakistan and Afghanistan handled Covid better than India." With the country and world combating the pitfalls of coronavirus-induced-lockdown, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a report on Tuesday had stated that the Indian economy is projected to contract massive 10.3 per cent this year. However, India is likely to bounce back with an impressive 8.8 per cent growth rate in 2021, thus regaining the position of the fastest growing emerging economy, surpassing China's projected growth rate of 8.2 per cent, the IMF said in its latest 'World Economic Outlook' report, as reported by news agency.
