American cult bike maker Harley-Davidson has decided to shut down its India factory as business remains sluggish and sales are hard to come by. The company may soon announce a partnership with a local, homegrown Indian two-wheeler company that many expect to be Hero MotoCorp. Sources said that Harley has been downsizing its operations in India and is understood to have laid off workers in the market as business has slowed down, especially in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company had its factory at Bawal in Haryana. Most of the steps, including global job cuts, are being initiated as part of a new plan unveiled by new CEO Jochen Zeitz under The Rewire overhaul strategy. Harley officials said that service will be available to the companys buyers in India, and care will be taken that spares and even new sales are provided. The company sources said, 'We are changing our business model and we will be closing our manufacturing facility.'
