Locals in Nepal protest over Chinese incursion, illegal construction in Humla district

Kathmandu, 23-Sep-2020

Protests broke out in front of the Chinese embassy in Kathmandu over the illegal construction of 9-11 houses in Humla district of Nepal. The protests started after Nepal authorities confirmed that the Chinese have intruded into the Nepalese territory. A senior journalist in Nepal confirmed that the locals were carrying placards that said "Back off China". The construction was objected to after authorities confirmed that Chinese side had intruded into Nepal. The area is said to be near Mount Kailash. The protesting locals alleged that China has secretly built structures in Humla district and also provoked further by allegedly stopping the Nepali population from entering the area. China has constructed nine buildings in the Nepal territory without the country's consent or permission. While China has been flexing muscle at the Ladakh border with India, leading to tensions between the two armies of India and China, the now seem to have expansionist designs against the friendly nation of Nepal as well. Meanwhile, tension continue to simmer in the Ladakh region where Indian troops have been engaged in a bitter standoff with Chinese soldiers since April-May. On Tuesday, for the first time since the escalation, India and China agreed not to send more troops to the frontline, refrain from unilaterally changing the situation on the ground and avoid taking any actions that may further complicate matters.
