Travelling between Amritsar and Delhi would be a shorter and smoother ride as the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has recently announced the construction of a new expressway which would cut the travel time by 4 hours!

According to the latest reports, a new Greenfield connectivity to Punjab’s Amritsar from Nakodar through Sultanpur Lodhi, Khadoor Sahib and Goindwal Sahib as part of Delhi-Amritsar Expressway.

Presently, it takes about 8 hours to reach Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport from Amritsar city. The development of the new expressway would fulfil the long-standing demand of several people.

Reportedly, Nitin Gadkari announced that the road from Amritsar to Gurdaspur would be made completely signal free in order to give people the choice to travel to Gurdaspur onwards from Nakodar through Amritsar or Kartarpur.

News has it that the Greenfield alignment will provide alternate express road not only to Amritsar and also other prominent religious destinations related to the five Sikh Gurus. Even the newly developed Dera Baba Nanak aka Kartarpur Sahib International Corridor in the state of Punjab will be included in the route.

The alignment was finalised in a review meeting which was attended by Captain Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab, and other ministers.

It has been reported that the project to develop Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway has been taken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways under Bharatmala Pariyojana.
