Uber Technologies has restarted services in green and orange zones in the country, its chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said as the ride-hailing company sees “some green shoots” after lockdowns hit cab bookings worldwide.

Areas designated as Green and orange zones, where the spread of Covid-19 infections is under control, account for more than 80% of India’s 733 districts, Uber said.

The shared mobility industry, which had been slowing since last year, was battered further due to the virus outbreak Weeks prior to the lockdown in India, Uber and rival Ola’s ride numbers had dipped by as much as 60% as people gradually shifted to working from home officials reported in March.
