After four days of violence in the national capital’s North-East district, a team of Delhi Police finally swung into action and collected crucial evidence from a building owned by suspended AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain. The political leader was named in the FIR filed in connection with the killing of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma. A team of Forensic personnel also visited the scene and collected evidence from the spot where Ankit was found dead.

Sources say that the team has recovered crucial evidence in connection with Sharma’s murder. The police have also seized petrol bombs, acid, stones, and bricks which were allegedly used by rioters during the violence that jolted the national capital earlier this month. A preliminary investigation has established that petrol bombs and stones were hurled from the terrace of a 4-storey building owned by Tahir Hussain.

An admission report accessed from Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi's Shahdara revealed that Ankit Sharma was brought in the main casualty ward in an unconscious and unresponsive state after he was found near Chand Bagh at around midnight on February 25.

It is being reported that Tahir will be called in for questioning very soon in connection with Ankit’s murder. Hussain, however, has denied all the allegations and claims that he had reached out to the police twice on that day to save his life during the violence. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal suspended Tahir from the party that returned to power in the national capital earlier this month. Leaders of the BJP have alleged that the suspended AAP leader conspired to incite violence and played an active role in spreading it.

148 FIRs registered, over 600 detained:
As many as 148 FIRs have been filed and 603 people either detained or arrested in connection with the violence as of yet. In addition, Forensic experts collected evidence from riot-affected areas along with the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Friday. Top officials also urged the public to register any complaints regarding hare material on the cyber helpline 155260.

26 of 42 victims identified by police:
Until Friday, the death toll rose to 32 with more than 250 people being treated for injuries at various hospitals across Delhi. Fatal injuries due to stone pelting or physical assault have been identified as the cause of death for 22 of the victims. Meanwhile, gunshot wounds claimed the lives of another 13 people in the violence, said Delhi Police. Only 26 of the 42 victims have been identified until now.

Mysterious shooter:
Police officials said that a man who brazenly opened fire in the Jaffrabad-Maujpur area has been identified but refused to divulge details of his whereabouts. Interestingly, earlier it was reported that he was arrested after he aimed a gun at a cop on Monday, but now the police have gone on the record and said that he was not arrested. India Today TV reached out to his house and found the place locked.
