The security arrangements at Srinagar International Airport were taken over by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Wednesday, while the reshuffle at Jammu Airport would take place in the first week of March. In this context, the Police Headquarters has ordered the evacuation/officers and personnel of Armed Police posted/attached at the airport.

According to officials, after the arrest of Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh on January 11, the process of handing over airport security to CISF was expedited. Singh was caught while trying to send three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists out of the valley to Chandigarh. The CISF has deployed 500 personnel for airport security.

In this regard, a senior official said that the CISF, which has the security responsibility of all airports and government establishments, will provide overall anti-terrorism security to Srinagar International Airport. The Srinagar airport will be the 62nd airport to be under the security cover of the CISF. Airport Director Santosh Dhoke handed over the airport key to CISF Special Director General (Airport) MA Ganapathi, who was till now guarded by the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Meanwhile, the order issued by ADGP Co-ordination SJM Jilani of Police Headquarters said that all the personnel of armed and executive police should report in their respective zones. The personnel who are attached at both the airports are also detached. They also report in their zones and battalions. At the same time, the gazetted officers have been asked to report to the police headquarters, so that they can be accommodated at other places. Police personnel posted on Katra and Sanjhi roof helipad will not be removed yet Police personnel deployed on Katra and Sanjhi roof helipad will remain there. These policemen will be under SSP Security Jammu.
