Amit Sharma, a senior JKAS officer, presently working as Administrator, GMCH & Associated Hospitals Jammu on Monday led a unique annual function as Chief Guest of rag picker/beggar Children’s school, running successfully for the past 11 years single-handedly by one retired teacher Kanchan Sharma who is the real unsung hero behind this inspiring model.

Amit was invited by the team led by Kanchan Sharma to preside over in today’s annual function of kids from struggling background studying in Sanghrash Vidya Kendra, a primary school initiative located in Maratha Colony of Trikuta Nagar in Jammu. Amit along with other social activists including I.D Soni, a renowned contributor, Sameer Andotra, Dr. B.B Raina and others joined the program. Chief Guest Amit Sharma applauded the enthralling performances of young kids of the school, especially the versatile skills of one kid Samuel who acted, danced, performed and led the parade from the front.

Emotional acting was on ‘Taare Zameen Par’ song by the kids of school which expressed the naked truth of these struggling children who deserve opportunities to prove worth like normal kids.

Similarly, on exploring further, it came to the light that these children come from varied struggling backgrounds and were earlier involved in various vices such as gambling, drug addiction, etc but Kanchan Sharma led this mission relentlessly to achieve an almost impossible goal and now, with her efforts, the strength of this school is almost 100 and some children who have studied here are also appearing for Board Exams after building strong educational foundation here.

Inspiring leader of the school Kanchan Sharma who has seen the worst personal tragedy of losing both her son and daughter’s lives later resolved to devote her life for the needy children and this is the point from where the journey of creating this inspiring teaching model of ‘Sanghrash Vidya Kendra’ began almost a decade ago.

She further apprised the Chief Guest Amit Sharma that this year, a troupe of this school was chosen to perform during Republic Day Parade and was honored by Lieutenant Governor G.C Murmu in the Parade for an outstanding performance at M.A Stadium.

In his presidential address, while distributing prizes amongst the students, Amit Sharma expressed deepest gratitude to the organizers for giving him an opportunity to spend memorable moments amongst these versatile little kids from such struggling backgrounds but alongside, he assured all kinds of help in terms of provisioning of best facilities to these students for getting medical aid, uplifting the living standards and all possible government help to this unique initiative for these well-deserving lot in future.

He further resolved that he along with his social circles would prefer spending birthdays and joyous occasions with these wonderful kids in times to come. Amit appreciated the vision of rag-picking and poorest background parents of these kids who have saved their future generational washout and request them to keep carrying forward with their resolves.

Alongside, senior activist I.D Soni inspired the young kids with a lot of examples from the past, Swami Vivekananda stories and even verses of Holy Gita so that they fight against all adversaries and emerge as winners and leaders of the future. Sameer Andotra, a social worker of the area assured kids of all kinds of help and cooperation in times to come.
