Tik Tok has been banned inside the Golden Temple of Amritsar by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The temple authorities have put a complete ban on making TikTok videos inside the premises of the temple.

The SGPC, which is the religious body of Sikhs, has put posters inside the temple complex, which reads "TikTok is prohibited here." These posters are warning for visitors and devotees to not to shoot TikTok videos inside the temple premises.

Just a day before, Giani Harpreet Singh, the head priest of the Akal Takht which is the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, had made an announcement of banning mobile phones inside the Golden Temple complex if people continue shooting TikTok videos inside the shrine.

The China-based ByteDance video platform has a huge fan following in India and as per data, more than 200 million Indians are on Tik Tok.

The head priest said, "We want all devotees to visit the Golden Temple without any hassle and are not in favour of imposing any such (mobile) ban, but the way the incidents of TikTok are surfacing, I think imposing the ban on carrying mobile phones inside (Golden Temple) will have to be pondered over in the future".

He also informed the media that when he tried to stop some devotees from doing so, they started arguing with sewadars (workers) on being stopped from taking pictures.

Before this, the SGPC had already put a ban on photography and videography inside the Golden Temple to avoid any disturbance that will hamper the spiritual ambiance. Just a few days back, a TikTok video went viral where three girls can be seen inside the temple dancing on a Punjabi song on social media.

The SGPC also saw the video and was prompted to take such a strict decision. Though it was not the first time something like this had happened. It was the second TikTok incident in the month of January. Someone also did a police complaint against one girl for hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs after she shot a TikTok video inside the Darbar Sahib.
