On the occasion of the 71st Republic Day, the government carrier distributed flags made of a special environmentally friendly paper to passengers at metro cities and Srinagar airports. The airline greeted the people on Republic Day by placing a large banner on the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

This is the first Republic Day celebration after most of the provisions of Article 370 in the Valley were scrapped on August 5. Air India spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar said that these flags have been prepared by members of Sahariya tribe of Madhya Pradesh. These were distributed at airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Srinagar.

Kumar said that he distributed more than 800 flags at Srinagar airport. He informed that a total of more than 30,000 flags have been distributed. Marigold and fenugreek seeds have been used to prepare this flag. The flag was hoisted at the Srinagar airport by the Airports Authority of India.
