Omar Abdullah, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and vice-president of the National Conference, kept in preventive custody since August 4, will be shifted from Hari Niwas sub-jail within 24 hours to his house on Gupakar Marg. They'll be housed in the M-4 government guest house. Gupakar Marg is a zone of high security.

The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has termed the transfer as an administrative call, but if the concerned sources are to be believed, then this step has been taken in view of the tours of Jammu and Kashmir starting by various Union Ministers this week. At the same time, according to some, United States President Donald Trump is also going to visit India next month and by then taking the steps towards restoring political activities in Kashmir, bring Omar Abdullah nearer to his house used to be.

The officers involved said that the govt guest house in which the former Chief Minister will be housed is at a distance of a few steps from the residence of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar's father, and his official residence. At some distance from this guest house is his uncle Mustafa Kamal's house. Omar Abdullah will also get facilities in this guest house as per the jail manual. Probably they will be transferred here today i.e. Thursday.
