Sept 2, 2025: Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will pay a three-day official visit to India from Tuesday, reaffirming the commitment to strengthen bilateral ties.
Wong's introductory visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
This marks Wong’s first trip to India since assuming office.
Wong, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level delegation that includes Cabinet ministers and senior officials, is expected to engage in a packed schedule.
He will have bilateral talks with PM Modi on September 4, and the topics that are likely to be discussed are economic cooperation, regional security, and upcoming global challenges. He will also call on President Droupadi Murmu and meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar along with other senior leaders.
India and Singapore have a long-standing strategic partnership that was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during PM Modi's visit to Singapore in September 2024. Officials said the trip is expected to reaffirm both sides’ commitment to deepening collaboration under India’s ‘Act East’ policy.
The two Prime Ministers will review the breadth of bilateral cooperation ranging from trade and investment to digital innovation and defence and chart a roadmap for future engagement. They are also set to exchange views on key regional and international issues of mutual interest.
