Sept 1, 2025: Local officials reported on Monday that a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck a mountainous region close to Pakistan's border in eastern Afghanistan left over 250 people dead. Around midnight local time, the quake struck the Jalalabad region.

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, it was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

According to the Taliban administration, an earthquake in the western province of Herat in October 2023 resulted in the deaths of at least 2,400 people.
