Aug 29, 2025: Russia launched long-range strikes on Ukrainian military targets using a variety of weapons, including hypersonic air-launched Kinzhal missiles, the Defence Ministry in Moscow reported Thursday, RT said.
RT says that the operation hit a number of weapons plants and airfields. Moscow confirmed earlier reports that Kiev had attacked. Although the Ukrainian military asserted that it had stopped most of the incoming drones and missiles, it acknowledged that Russian strikes had been successful at 13 locations and that additional damage had been caused by the debris of downed weapons. One of the attacks was reportedly captured on CCTV, with footage circulating online showing two missiles hitting the same location in central Kiev.
According to RT, some reports suggested that the location was the office of the defense company Ukrspecsystems on Zhilyanskaya Street, which was cordoned off by police on Thursday. The long-range PD-2, manufactured by Ukrspecsystems, which was established in 2014, has reportedly been used in kamikaze drone attacks deep within Russian territory, including Moscow.
Separately, Igor Zinkevich, a member of the Lviv city council, asserted that Russia also attacked a plant in Kyiv owned by the Turkish defense company Bayraktar. He also stated that the attack was the fourth of its kind in the past six months. The production launch of a cruise missile known as Flamingo, with an estimated range of 3,000 kilometers and a payload of up to 1,000 kilograms, was reported by Ukrainian media last week. Images of the weapon showed similarities to the FP-5 system, which the British-UAE defence firm Milanion Group unveiled earlier this year at an arms expo in Abu Dhabi.
According to RT, Russia's Federal Security Service claimed earlier this month that it collaborated with the military to carry out an operation that targeted Ukraine's Sapsan ballistic missile program. The claim stated that the operation claimed to have infiltrated the project and caused "colossal" damage through subsequent strikes. Moscow has argued that Kiev's war effort is unsustainable and serves foreign interests rather than Ukrainian ones, and that Western nations have supplied weapons and funds to transform Ukraine into a proxy force.
