Aug 29, 2025: Multiple families were reported trapped after cloudbursts triggered massive debris flows in the Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand on Friday.

Bareth Dungar Tok in Buskedar tehsil (Rudraprayag) and the Deval region of Chamoli district are among the affected areas. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed the incident and stated that the local administration is conducting relief and rescue operations on a war footing. He also said that he keeps in touch with officials and has told the Disaster Secretary and the District Magistrates to make sure that rescue efforts are quick and effective. "After cloudbursts in Bareth, Dungar Tok, and Deval, a distressing report has been received that some families are trapped due to debris flow. In a translated portion of his post, Dhami stated, "Relief efforts are ongoing." Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari, quoted by news agency ANI, reported that two people were missing in the aftermath of the cloudburst, and several animals had been buried under the debris. He also noted that multiple roads in the district had been closed due to heavy rainfall, further complicating rescue efforts.

In the affected areas, teams of emergency responders have been sent. Uttarakhand has experienced several incidents of cloudbursts and flash floods since the onset of the monsoon this year. In response to a disaster that occurred on August 22 in Tharali village (Chamoli district), Chief Minister Dhami ordered a team of experts to investigate the circumstances.
