Aug 18, 2025: According to officials, heavy rains in the Ramban district caused multiple landslides and the shooting of stones from hillocks overlooking the main road to close the Jammu-Srinagar national highway early on Monday. They stated that commuters should adhere to lane discipline as overtaking will result in congestion on inter-regional roads like the Mughal and Sinthan roads.
The jammu-srinagar highway has been closed due to stone-throwing at several locations. Heavy rains are going on along the highway. A J-K Traffic Police Department advisory stated that "all types of vehicular movement have been stopped." It further said commuters are advised not to travel until the weather improves and the road is cleared.
In addition to Monkey Morh and the Maroog area of the Ramban district, landslides have occurred on the national highway near the Sharda Mata temple in the Udhampur district. They stated that both humans and machines are working to remove blockades from the highway and make it trafficable.
