A layer of haze brought perceivability down to no meter at a few spots in north and upper east India, influencing rail traffic, authorities said.

Satellite symbolism showed some decrease in haze over Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Nonetheless, 'thick' to 'exceptionally thick' mist won in pieces of Punjab, Haryana, west Rajasthan, Bihar, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Assam.

A representative for the Indian Rail lines said 18 trains showing up in Delhi were postponed by as long as six hours because of hazy climate.

At 5.30 am, perceivability levels remained at 25 meters in Patiala, Amritsar, Ambala, Hisar, Bikaner and Purnia and 50 meters in Churu, Ganganagar, Jhansi, Ranchi, Paradip and Lakhimpur.

At the Palam Observatory close to the Indira Gandhi Worldwide Air terminal in Delhi, perceivability was restricted to just 50 meters.

Nonetheless, it improved to 350 meters by 8.30 am.

Early-morning hazy climate in north and upper east India has vigorously affected street, rail and air traffic over the last fortnight.

The IMD said 'thick' to 'extremely thick' haze and 'cold day' to 'serious cold day' conditions are probably going to beat north India for the following five days.
