At least 24 people were killed when a tourist bus plunged into a ravine in Peru's Huancavelica region, local media reported.

The incident happened around 1:30 am. local time (0630 GMT) on Monday in a mountainous area of ​​Churcampa province, Xinhua news agency reported.

Among the victims were minors, the news agency Radio Programas del Peru reported, citing the Integral Health Network of Churcampa.

The injured were taken to hospitals in the cities of Huancayo, Pampo and Ayacucho.


Manuel Zevallos, the mayor of Anco, told the radio station that the road has been in bad shape for at least a month due to an avalanche in the area.
