At least 15 people were killed and several others injured when a transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, officials said on Wednesday. The dead included three police inspectors and three home guards, the official said. The injured were taken to the district hospital.

"Some 15 people were killed, including a police lieutenant and five home guards. An investigation is ongoing." At first glance, the railing appears to have been electrified, and an investigation will reveal more details," Uttarakhand Police Deputy Director V. Murugesan told ANI.
