Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is being shifted from Hari Niwas, designated as subsidiary jail, to a bungalow on Gupkar Road soon, but his detention that has entered sixth month, however, will continue.

Omar Abdullah is among the three former Chief Ministers who were arrested on August 4 midnight on the eve of the scrapping of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar will be shifted to a house on Gupkar Road, a posh locality where who’s who of J&K reside. He will not be shifted to his own bungalow that was allotted to him as a former Chief Minister, but to some other bungalow on Gupkar Road. Three-time Chief Minister and currently sitting members of Parliament Farooq Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti are the two other Chief Ministers in detention since August 5. Officials, however, did not explain why Omar is being shifted to some other place. r.
