30-03-2021

In the wake of a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Chandigarh administration on Tuesday declared 25 areas in the union territory as containment zones. The office of Mandip Singh Brar, the district magistrate-cum-chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Chandigarh, issued a notification in this regard. As per the notification, medical teams will continue to screen and monitor areas declared as containment zones.
The Municipal Authorities will, meanwhile, conduct frequent sanitisation of the areas. Residents of these areas have been advised to strictly wear masks, maintain social distancing norms, and follow hand hygiene. Last week, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had dispatched a high-level multidisciplinary team to Chandigarh in view of a rise in COVID-19 cases. The team will work with the Chandigarh administration to ascertain the reasons behind the surge, help in undertaking gap analysis and suggest requisite COVID-19 control and containment measures. Vijay Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Textiles, is leading the team to Chandigarh with experts from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.
