G C Murmu resigns as L-G of J&K

Jammu | 5 Aug 2020

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu on Wednesday tendered his resignation after nine months as the head of administration of the Union Territory of India. According to sources, he could be the next Comptroller and Auditor General of India after Rajiv Mehrishi retires this week.
Murmu made history after taking over as the first L-G of Jammu and Kashmir on 31 October 2019 after the state of J&K was bifurcated into two Union Territories, the other being Ladakh.
He took over the mantle in the Valley from the last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir - Satya Pal Malik.
The 1985-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Gujarat cadre was the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Rajiv Mehrishi, who held the post of the Home Secretary of India back in 2015, took over as the CAG on 25 September 2017 and is expected to retire by end of this week.
