47 fresh cases and 2 deaths reported in J&K

During the past 24 hours, two persons died due to Covid and 47 tested positive for it, taking the total number of cases in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to 1,668. A 65-year-old woman from Budgam village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district died at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital and an income tax lawyer, suffering from various ailments, died in Jammu. The total number of Covid cases in J&K is 1,668, out of which 1,374 are from the Kashmir division and 294 from the Jammu division. A total of over 1.34 lakh persons have been enlisted for surveillance out of which over 72,000 have completed the mandatory period of surveillance. Forty seven new Covid positive cases were reported today, out of which 33 cases are from the Jammu division and 14 from Kashmir, spokesman of the J&K Government, Rohit Kansal, told media here this evening. Jammu reported 21 fresh positive cases, Anantnag five, Kathua four, Kulgam and Srinagar three each, while as two cases each were reported in Udhampur, Poonch, Reasi and one each in Shopian, Kupwara, Pulwama, Ramban and Doda districts. As the Jammu province witnessed highest-ever one-day spike with 67 positive corona cases during the last 24 hours, many new areas have been declared red zones with strict lockdown and perimeter control, except for essential services. Three wards of the posh Trikuta Nagar locality of Jammu city were declared red zone after an income tax lawyer from this locality tested positive after his death due to multiple ailments at a private hospital.
