Lt-Governor GC Murmu on Tuesday emphasized that before the schools and colleges are reopened, all these institutions should be properly sanitized and fumigated. He also announced that it might not be possible to reopen the schools till May 31. An official spokesman said the Lt-Governor today chaired a high-level meeting of the Education Department to review the education scenario amid the lockdown. The meeting discussed the functioning of the department and status of academic activities. Principal Secretary, School Education, Dr Asgar Samoon informed at the meeting that in the absence of normal functioning of schools, the students were being taught through tele classes being conducted through local cable network Doordarshan, radio and J&K Knowledge Network. Besides, online classes were being arranged for students who had access to smart phones, the spokesman said.
