Srinagar Mayor quarantined after councillor tests positive

Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Junaid Mattu has been home quarantined after a Councillor tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. Total 17 persons tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total caseload in the UT to 743. Mattu and other SMC workers were in close contact with the councillor, whose brother also tested positive on May 1. In the Union Territory of J&K, 17 new positive cases have been reported since our last update yesterday, three from Jammu and 14 from Kashmir, reads the media bulletin on coronavirus. It said 17 Covid-19 patients had recovered and discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir. Nine samples out of 1,148 were tested positive at the SKIMS lab and five out of 838 samples at the Chest Disease Hospital lab. Officials said record number of tests 1,986 were conducted in Kashmir today. The authorities have imposed night curfew on public movement, except medical emergencies, across J&K. Shopian has reported six fresh cases, Srinagar four, Bandipora and Jammu two each, and Baramulla, Udhampur and Anantnag one each. A labourer from the remote Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, who recently returned from Ludhiana, was today tested positive for coronavirus. Two more tested positive in Jammu city. A 55-year-old woman from Gurah Bakshi Nagar and a man, who was working as a labourer in Himachal Pradesh and returned recently, were tested positive. The labourer was at quarantine center in Jammu. The majority of positive cases 678 have been reported from Kashmir, while 65 are from the Jammu division.
