The Northern Railway on Tuesday converted six train coaches into isolation wards to help the Jammu administration fight coronavirus. With the increasing Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northern Railways has come forward to help the doctors fight the deadly virus. The Railways authorities have removed the middle berths of the non-AC sleeper compartments of the train and converted them into isolation cabins after properly sanitising them. “There are nine cabins in every coach and we have kept one cabin for the nursing staff and eight cabins have been turned into isolation wards in six coaches,” said Chetan Taneja, Divisional Traffic Manager (DTM), Railways, Jammu-Pathankot range. The use of the cabins is, however, yet to be finalised by the Ministry of Railways. As the Railways has stopped operation since the lockdown, many coaches have been converted into the isolation wards across the country. “We have converted it into hospital beds and other facilities will be provided according to the requirements of the patients,” the DTM said. The coaches have been parked at Jammu Tawi Railway Station and will be moved according to the requirement. Jammu and Kashmir has crossed the figure of 100 positive cases till now.
