The Chenab region of Jammu and Kashmir faces a tough time due to the absence of proper medical facilities to meet any challenge. Hospitals in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts do not have proper equipment, such as ventilators, to meet any kind of eventuality. Even these three districts do not have any Covid testing facility available in the region and have to send their samples to either GMC, Jammu, or SKIMS, Srinagar. “These are worrying signs as experts have predicted a tough time ahead as the Covid virus is spreading fast in the country. In the last few days the number of positive cases has gone beyond 400 and eight persons have died so far,” said Ishtiaq Ahmed Dev, a social worker of Doda. Over 10 lakh persons are living in three districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban and these districts never got any good health facilities. Though a few years ago, a GMC was announced for Doda district, yet it is still in its infancy and the institution is yet to get MBBS seats. But people are hoping that in tough times like this the GMC could be used to help people in distress.
