In view of Covid threat, engineers and field staff of Power Distribution Company Ltd, J&K, has demanded that the amnesty scheme should be halted for the next few weeks. Power staff said hundreds of people were daily visiting offices of the executive engineers and assistant executive engineers, which could expose them to the virus, endangering their lives. “Although the government departments have been advised to limit the inflow of people, hundreds are visiting the offices daily to take the advantage of the amnesty scheme. This is putting the lives of engineers and staff at risk,” said Nazir Ahmad Chowdhury, president, J&K Reserved Categories Electrical Engineers’ Association. Meanwhile, the association wrote a letter to the secretary of the Power Department. “The administration should also ensure that employees, who are working to ensure regular supply of electricity, are given N95 masks, sanitisers and special clothes to deal with Covid,” it said.
