Twitterati was left confused after top telecom companies replaced the default caller tune with a coronavirus advisory.

The mobile service providers have introduced a pre-call announcement on coronavirus that begins with a sudden coughing sound.

The health advisory, from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, lists the various precautions one must exercise to avoid contracting the disease, such as regularly washing hands or covering your face with a handkerchief while sneezing. It also lists a helpline number —+91-11-23797-8046.

“Avoid touching your face, eyes, or nose. If someone has a cough, fever or breathlessness maintain one-metre distance. If needed, visit your nearest health centre immediately,” the advisory states.

True to its form, Twitterati was divided about the announcement. While some thought it was “too long” or potentially “dangerous” others termed it as a welcome move aimed at spreading “awareness”.
